Project Tango

Paracosm contributed dense mapping to Google ATAP’s Project Tango, which is real-time mapping of complex and arbitrary indoor scenes in variable lighting conditions. In addition to the UI and integration, we worked on the core technology. At Paracosm, this technology contributes to our own 3D reconstructions/models.

Get some coffee, sit down in the conference room, pull out your laptop. If you’re feeling adventurous, try taking a shower.

Broadmoor Hotel

The Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs hosted the 2014 Spar Point conference. Paracosm scanned a long corridor for the conference’s scanning competition as well as the hotel’s piano room. The hallway took just 11 minutes of scanning time with our mobile tablet-based scanner, with no prep work or registration done beforehand.

Run down the hallway. Relax in the piano room and play “Chopsticks” for anyone within hearing distance.

Our Team

Paracosm started in January 2013 in Gainesville, FL. Our dedicated team of parakeet cosmonauts are engineers, programmers, and 3D-artists obsessed with bringing real world places to people's fingertips.

Amir Rubin

Amir Rubin

CEO - Chief Parakeet

I founded Prioria Robotics in 2003 after graduating University of Florida as a computer engineer. It's now a major tech employer in Gainesville, with the city recently building them a new downtown headquarters. I also developed the backend for a groundbreaking 3D nursing simulator for Gainesville startup Shadow Health as employee #1 from 2011-2012. Paracosm is my newest adventure, and I can't wait to see where it takes us!

Christian von Kleist

Christian von Kleist

CTO - Tech Parakeet

I'm awesome at having insight into hard problems that are right at the limits of what computers are capable of understanding. At Paracosm I work on algorithms related to trajectory estimation and surface reconstruction. So far Ive worked on some really cool problems in a variety of disciplines like information security, computer vision. Finding the solution is all about how you think about the problem. There are no rules!

CSO - Perception Parakeet

I've always been intrigued with making computers intelligent - not just good at data processing, but able to understand. It's not something you can directly program, it's about finding new ways to let computers perceive, learn, and interact with their environment. At Paracosm, I'm exploring highly parallel algorithms to do just that. My power animal is the penguin, because it's always a good time to suit up.

Ian Taylor

Ian Taylor

(Co-Founder) - Engineering

At Paracosm I dream of scaling up software/hardware to scan the entire world. I'm really good at starting projects. I can get things going with a lot of momentum. I'm also into running my community tech/maker's club: Gainesville Hackerspace, where I help bring together people who also like to make and tinker with things.

Preston Mueller

Engineering

I'm a full stack web developer who graduated from UF in 2013 with a degree in Computer Science. At Paracosm, I work on developing web apps and APIs that bring the power of Paracosm's 3D magic to the world. My favorite animal is the fox. Especially those of the fire variety.

Quinn Martin

Engineering

I love working at the interface of art and engineering. Stuff I've done includes digital musical instruments and space computers. At Paracosm I work on reconstruction algorithms for turning data from commodity cameras into high resolution point clouds. When I'm not doing that, I also enjoy working on the perfect espresso shot at my coffee shop. I'm looking forward to the day when I can save backups of all my stuff in 3D. When my dog eats my shoes, I'll print more!

Engineering

I'm an experienced programmer, obsessed with writing code that does exactly what it's supposed to do. At Paracosm, I develop tools used internally by other developers, as well as applications intended for our users. I love working hard on anything, especially in collaboration with others, extra-especially if it's making the world a better place. My power animal is the dog. They always live in the present moment and their earnestness and loyalty is unmatched.

Anna Williams

Anna Williams

(Co-founder) 3D CAD & Graphics

I'm a technical artist and systems designer with eight years experience in the video game industry. At Paracosm, I help the team understand what kind of raw 3D data is useful to industry professionals and how best to format it. If I could be any animal, it'd be an otter. Perhaps even a 3D otter, so that I could be an otter in space. A space otter. Yes, that's it. An intergalactic lutra.

Duncan Martel

Duncan Martel

3D CAD & Graphics

I'm a 3D-artist with a bachelor's degree in design from the College of Architecture and a Masters of Art in Digital Arts and Sciences from the Digital Worlds Institute (both at University of Florida). At Paracosm, I work with Anna to figure out how our system will effectively fit into existing artist pipelines. Oh, and cheetahs are freakin awesome.

Conway Carter

Conway Carter

3D CAD & Graphics

I'm Paracosm's scanning Jedi. My powers derive from a unique background in photography, 3D modeling, architectural field documentation, and photogrammetric reconstruction. I'm also a perpetual student of architecture at UH Manoa, boldly expanding the definition of 'leave of absence' while finishing my thesis on traditional Japanese wood structures. My spirit animal is the niccage.

Sean Priddy

Sean Priddy

Business & Marketing

I have a background in electronics product development specializing in software development for PC and embedded platforms ranging from consumer electronics to Aerospace applications. While I continue to be a software developer at heart, I've shifted my focus from solving technical problems to customer problems. I strive to make it easier for customers to use software technology by translating business requirements into technical requirements. At Paracosm, I am working diligently to engage customers with our 3D technology and to understand how we can help them solve real world problems. Let's 3D-ify the world!

Monica Miller

Monica Miller

Business & Marketing

I studied product engineering at Stanford University. I built consumer products as a Co-Founder @Lendfriend and @Lumifyapp. At Paracosm, I focus on marketing and consumer strategies. I'm fascinated by the 3D consumer opportunities and I'm excited to 3Dify the world!

Gannon Wilder

Gannon Wilder

Business & Marketing

I'm working on my Master of Science Degree in Management at UF, and at Paracosm I do everything Business and Development-related. I'm excited to be a part of the revolution, giving everyone access to 3D! My favorite animal is the honey badger, because it just don't care.

Effie Rodriguez

Effie Rodriguez

Business & Marketing

I'm Paracosm's resident graphic designer. I love pushing pixels and developing a visual personality for our merry band of code-slingers. In a past life, I was probably something small and fuzzy. Like a chinchilla or jackelope, which explains why I startle easily, particularly after drinking Quinn's coffee.

Emily Sparr

Emily Sparr

Office Ninja

I am here to help around the office to take care of the day to day little things that need done. A little about me: I work with Quinn at Radical Press Coffee Collective and focus on baking delicious vegan/gluten free treats. I moved to Gainesville about 2.5 year ago from Clemson, South Carolina and love this little growing city.
